Tom Dixon's Void is a rounded, futuristic luminaire with its light source hidden inside its shiny metal shade. With enough work and patience, even base metals can be treated to the same luster as precious metals, and in the production of Void this has been taken to the extreme: the luminaire's body is cut from a metal sheet, pressed, spun and brazed to its double-walled shape, then polished and varnished for maximum gloss.
Thanks to its special shape, Void directs the light straight down, making the luminaire particularly well-suited, for example, over a dining table or a kitchen island, either individually or as a group of several luminaires. Tom Dixon has playfully described the Void luminaire: "This is my ULO - Unidentified Lighting Object. It illuminates, but you can't really tell where the light is coming from."
