Tom Dixon's Swirl stepped bookend is designed to support the books on a shelf in straight rows, but the sculptural support doesn't necessarily need to be accompanied by books, so striking is it on its own. The bookend has a small opening at the top, sized for a candle, so it can also be used as a charming candleholder – in which case, of course, you have to move it away from the easily lit paper books. The package contains two bookends, one in color and the other one in black and white.
Like other Tom Dixon Swirl products, the bookend consists of different geometric shapes stacked on top of each other to form multi-dimensional sculptures. All Swirl products are made from marble industry waste material mixed with pigment and resin. The blocks are then sawn, sliced and turned into new objects. Thanks to this manufacturing process, each Swirl booklet has its own unique pattern that gives it a personal look.
