Marimekko’s Unikko mug is decorated with Maija Isola's iconic floral pattern. The extra-large mug has a capacity of 13.53 x 0 fl oz (4 x dl, dl), making it ideal for those who prefer their tea or coffee mugs oversized. The bigger the better, right? The ceramic mug is part of the Oiva tableware range, designed by Sami Ruotsalainen, and is easily combinable with monochrome dishware as well as other Marimekko patterns. Why not collect a whole range of Unikkos in different colors?
All fans of Finnish design surely recognize Unikko, but have you ever heard the story behind the pattern? Maija Isola created it in 1964 after Armi Ratia, the founder of Marimekko, had publicly announced that no floral fabrics would be printed at the design house. Isola did not accept these rules and restrictions without a fight and, in protest, ended up designing an entire collection of bold floral patterns. One of these designs was Unikko – which quickly became a favorite of Ratia, too. Today, Unikko is one of Marimekko's best-known and most beloved patterns worldwide.
