Description

Finarte’s Kvartsi rug adds a bold dash of modern Finnish design to any space. Conceived by design duo Juslin Maunula, the hand-tufted rug features a fascinating geometric pattern created by the rug’s gorgeous, pleated surface structure that changes direction in different parts of the rug. The varied structure adds tactility to the design and not only feels nice under your toes but also creates a lively play of light and shadow on the rug's surface.

Typically for Juslin Maunula, the inspiration for the Kvartsi rug’s design comes from the realms of fashion and architecture – pleated fabrics and fluted stones and tiles in particular. The color and layout are informed by the works of color theorist Josef Albers and architect Carlo Scarpa, who has also influenced the name of the rug: Kvartsi is Finnish for quartz, a stone Scarpa often favored in his designs.

The Kvartsi rug, handmade in India, is part of Finarte’s Galleria collection. With this collection, Finarte was the first in Finland to begin collaboration with TrusTrace, a digital platform for product traceability and transparency. The rugs have a QR code that you can scan to trace the journey of the rug from material to final product.

Juslin Maunula

Juslin Maunula is a Finnish design studio and brand founded by fashion designer Laura Juslin and architect Lilli Maunula. The multidisciplinary studio draws on the backgrounds of both designers, building a bridge between fashion and architecture – the studio's works are influenced by both worlds, be it a clothing line, an installation or a jewelry collection.

Juslin Maunula is not only a design studio but also a clothing brand whose clothes have been worn by the likes of Lady Gaga and seen on the pages of Vogue magazines in Italy and China. In addition to their own brand, the duo has collaborated with Marimekko and Peacebird, among others. Juslin Maunula has also designed jewelry for Kalevala Koru, rugs for Finarte and an installation called Changing Rooms for Artek's Helsinki flagship store for Helsinki Design Week 2019. In 2022, Juslin Maunula received the Young Designer of the Year prize awarded by Design Forum Finland.
