Artek
Kori pendant with disc shade

Description

The Kori pendant light by Artek is part of a collection of luminaires, conceived by TAF Studio, with each design based on a central “basket of light”. This is also where the collection’s name stems from: Kori is Finnish for “basket”.

As you would expect from an Artek luminaire, the Kori lamps emit both direct and indirect light, creating a cozy, welcoming atmosphere and lighting that imitates natural light: the soft glow coming from within the basket resembles the evening sun shining through the leaves. The collection’s luminaires are made in Italy, with their matte white powder-coated surface looking almost like porcelain. The lamps are designed to be durable and low-maintenance, and their metal components can be easily separated and recycled.

As the Kori suspension lamp emits direct downward light, it is ideally placed over a counter or a table. This version is equipped with a disc shade that redirects the lamp’s diffused uplight back down, allowing it to spread softly over a wider area around the beam of direct light. Therefore, this lamp is perfect for a smaller dining table or perhaps a desk, or in repetition over a counter or a larger dining table.

A recurrent departure point in TAF Studio’s projects is that everyday objects by their very commonness can be made uncommon.
