Fredericia’s Canvas chair from 1970 is one of legendary Danish designer Børge Mogensen’s final designs. He created the clear-lined, minimalist seat as a protest to colorful plastic furniture in an effort of again to imbue people’s homes with harmony and a natural feel with the help of simple shapes and high-quality materials.
The Canvas chair is easy to recognize as Mogensen’s work due to the strong vertical and horizontal lines of the design. The lines also reinforce the contrast created by the flat canvas between pieces of rounded wood and the frame consisting of rectangular pieces of oak. Despite the angular silhouette, the Canvas chair is characterized by a serene expression that adapts easily to a variety of interiors.
