Michel Mortier

Michel Mortier (1925 - 2015) was a French designer who showed his talent for a design already at an early age. He graduated from the prestigious École des arts appliqués à l'industrie (School of Industrial Art) in Paris at the age of just 19 and was awarded a silver medal at the prestigious Milan Triennale at the age of 26. He won a gold medal at the same triennial only three years later in 1954. In addition to these recognitions, Mortier has been honored with the prestigious Prix René Gabriel.

Although Mortier is best known for his lighting, he also made a career in architecture. In the 1970s, the self-taught Mortier designed private homes and completed a degree in architecture. He also taught interior design in several French schools.
