Michael Young

For the British-born and Hong Kong-based designer Michael Young (b. 1966) traveling is a way of working. In the mid-90's Terence Conran, known for Habitat furniture company, chose Young as his favorite designer and at the same time the Wallpaper magazine praised his designs. Young however did not care about the fuss and escaped to Iceland where the environment helped him to concentrate on the essentials.

From there he moved to Belgium and continued to Taipei. Finally, Young ended up in Hong Kong where he founded his own company, Michael Young Ltd. The motto of the company is courageously: we create icons instead of products. One example is the Avalon armchair designed for Swedese, which is designed as a tribute to Verner Panton.
