Dorothee Becker
Dorothee Becker (1938–2023) is best remembered for her 1969 design of the Uten.Silo storage organizer, which is now produced by Vitra. Before her career as a designer, the German-born Becker studied languages and lived in cities such as London and Paris, eventually moving to California in 1960. Upon returning to Germany with her husband, lighting designer Ingo Maurer, she opened a design shop in Munich, which she ran until 1989. Although Becker was a completely self-taught designer, she still made a significant impact on the design world – Uten.Silo is a recognized design classic and is part of the collection at New York's MoMA.
