Eero Aarnio's Screw table lifts a familiar object found in every home in a place of honour. Screws are used in most furniture but usually, the aim is to hide them from view. Eero Aarnio's approach to industrial design has always been quite the opposite: he has wanted to make simple, hidden forms into visible objects. The Screw table, designed in 1991, turns the familiar into something completely different, growing an invisible little fixture into a gigantic size.
Like other Aarnio classics, the Screw table is made of fibreglass. This personal table will amuse the viewer and add a touch of quirkiness and humour to the interior, but it will also feed the imagination and inspire – just as Eero Aarnio hopes.
