Description

The Atelier chair by Artek has a balanced appearance and lightweight, stackable construction that make it well suited for restaurants, auditoriums as well as home dining. Atelier has references to a dining chair designed by Swedish architect Sven Markelius in the early 20th century, and the softly bent backrest and connecting bars between the front legs give it an easy, laid-back spirit.

The Atelier collection was born in 2018 when the Swedish TAF Studio was commissioned to design the interior for a new restaurant at Stockholm’s Nationalmuseum – the chair got its name because the dining hall resembles an artist’s atelier. Finnish Artek was chosen as the manufacturer because of its high quality and long expertise with wood. The Atelier chairs are manufactured in Italy from locally sourced species of wood.

TAF Studio

The Swedish architects Gabriella Lenke and Mattias Ståhlbom have run the architecture and design studio TAF (previously TAF Architects) in Stockholm, Sweden, since 2002. TAF Studio’s aim is to make ordinary life less ordinary through subtle but effective changes in how products and architecture appear and function. A recurrent departure point in TAF Studio’s projects is that everyday objects by their very commonness can be made uncommon.
