Designer
Miguel Milá (1931–2024) is of the pioneers of modern Spanish design. He started his career in the 1950s when industrial design was just arriving in Spain. Milá’s work has many references to traditional techniques and old craftsmanship, but his designs are also characterized by a passion for new techniques and materials.
Besides being an independent designer, Milá was also one of the founders of the Spanish design company Tramo. His most famous pieces include the simplistic TMC and TMM lamps as well as the atmospheric Cesta and Cestita lamps, all designed around the 1960s and still being sold today. In 1987, Milá was awarded the Spanish Premio Nacional de Diseño prize, and in 2008 he received the Compasso d’Oro award.
