Description

The AV Egoist chaise longue by Sibast beckons you to relax, kick your feet up and perhaps even doze off for a little afternoon nap. This lounge chair, representing the Danish elegance of the 1950s, features a beautiful solid wood frame and a comfortably reclined woven leather seat. The cushioned pillow provides support for your neck, and if desired, you can complete the lounging experience with a separately sold side table that attaches to the chair’s side.

Designed by Arne Vodder in the early 1950s, the AV Egoist chair was among the designer’s personal favourites. Only a few pieces of this chaise longue were produced back then, and the entire masterpiece could have been forgotten if it weren’t for the Danish company Sibast reviving it. Based on the original drawings, measurements and photographs, the reinterpretation of the AV Egoist was carried out through the collaboration of Sibast’s designers and Arne Vodder’s son, Michael Vodder. The end result represents genuine mid-modern charm and a classically timeless aesthetic that looks fresh and relevant also in contemporary interiors.

Arne Vodder

Arne Vodder is one of the most acclaimed Danish architects of the mid-20th century. He is known for his simplistic style that relies on organic forms, as well as his unparalleled material skills, which made him one of the leading figures of Danish modernism.

In the 1940s, Vodder first studied under master carpenter Niels Vodder and later at the Royal Danish Academy of Arts, where he was taught and mentored by the legendary architect and designer Finn Juhl. In the 1950s and 1960s, Vodder collaborated extensively with Sibast Furniture and designed many pieces of furniture for the manufacturer that enjoyed wide international success. Furniture designed by Vodder and made by Sibast Furniture even went to the White House, the Vatican, and the UN headquarters in Geneva, among other prominent locations.
