Description

GUBI's delicately beautiful Model 597 table lamp draws its inspiration from the world of fashion. Italian Gianfranco Frattini originally designed the charming lamp in 1961, taking cues from both the elegance of 1920s style and the long, draping curtains that once graced the entrances to bars and shops. The Model 597 luminaire consists of delicate cream-white fringes that evoke the allure of those doorway coverings – and like those curtains, you can pass your hand through the fringes to reveal a cone-shaped body of polished aluminium with small lamps attached to it. A single light source is also positioned on top of the Model 597 lamp, making it easy to adjust the lighting to any desired setting and ambience.

Gianfranco Frattini

Gianfranco Frattini (1926–2004) was an Italian architect and designer who focused especially on interior design during his career, but is also known as an industrial designer. Frattini originally studied architecture and worked in the architectural firm of the legendary Gio Ponti before founding his own office. However, when designing the sites, he noted that finding suitable lighting and furniture was often unnecessarily difficult, and so decided to start designing them himself. During his career, Frattini collaborated with numerous prestigious manufacturers ranging from Cassina and Artemide to Knoll. In 1956, Frattini was also involved in founding ADI, known for giving out the Compasso d’Oro Design Award. Frattini later also received the award himself, along with numerous other recognitions for his work.
