Friso Kramer

Friso Kramer (1922-2019) was one of the essential names of modern Dutch design. A son of the famous architect Piet Kramer, Friso studied architecture in Amsterdam and focused later on industrial design. Since 1948, Kramer worked as a designer for the steel furniture manufacturer De Cirkel, and in the 1950s he was an active member in the Stichting Goed Wonen (Good Living Association), which aimed at postwar reconstruction and improving quality of life by functional design.

One of Kramer’s best-known designs is the Revolt chair from 1953, which gained popularity in both homes and public spaces. Kramer’s awarded designs can be found from the collections of many museums, and he also received the title “Royal Designer for Industry” from the Royal Society of Arts in London.
