Artemide’s Minomushi floor lamp is part of the IN-EI Issey Miyake lighting collection that combines the Italian brand’s lighting expertise with the signature folding technology of Japanese designer Issey Miyake. The collection’s sculptural luminaires, that present a unique play of light and shadow, were inspired by Junichiro Tanizaki’s essay In Praise of Shadows (orig. In’ei Reisan).
The IN-EI Issey Miyake collection’s lights are made of a strong polyester fabric, made of recycled PET bottles, folded into various shapes. The material and folding allow the shades to stand or hang freely with no inner frame to support them, making each lamp collapsible. The innovative collection has won numerous prestigious awards, like the iF Product Design Award, Red Dot Product Design Award and Good Design Gold Award in 2013 as well as the Compasso d’Oro in 2014.
