Skagerak’s Maissi bench got its influences from many different directions. It was designed by Finnish Salla Luhtasela and American-born, Helsinki-based Wesley Walters, and manufactured by the Danish Skagerak. Maissi was first introduced at a Mexican exhibition and its design has references to Japanese minimalism and the industrial aesthetics of the 1930s and 1940s. Made of light solid oak, Maissi’s vivid expression comes from the combination of an edgy, rectangular seat and bent, asymmetric arm and backrest. Its versatile design is perfect as a hallway bench or an extra seat in the kitchen, and it also functions as a side table in the living room or plant stand by the window.
