GUBI’s Pedrera PD2 floor lamp was designed for Antoni Gaudi's famous La Pedrera building in Barcelona. In 1955, the loft space of La Pedrera was transformed from a laundry and storage area into 13 modern duplex apartments. Spanish architect Barba Corsini was in charge of the renovations, and to complement the modernist look of the rooms, Corsini also designed furniture and lighting for the apartments, including the Pedrera lamp.
The inspiration for the base of the Pedrera lamp came from the vaulted ceilings of the famous house of La Pedrera, while the cylindrical shape and the unique perforated details of the chimneys influenced the form of the lamp shades. The simplistic design emphasises the fun details of the lamp, and the perforated shade provides a pleasant ambience in any room.
