Designed by Achille Castiglioni and Pio Manzù in 1971 for the Italian brand Flos, Parentesi is an exceptional piece of lighting design – it is both a floor lamp and a ceiling lamp at the same time. Parentesi is attached between the ceiling and the floor with a steel cable, and it plugs into mains like a normal floor lamp. The height and direction of the lamp head can be adjusted to easily complement any space, domestic or public. With its industrial, functional construction, Parentesi is a classic of Italian design, and it has received the prestigious Compasso d'Oro design award.
The turquoise Parentesi luminaire is a special edition launched in celebration of the design’s 50th anniversary. The colourway pays homage to one of the two designers, Achille Castiglioni: turquoise was one of the colours he favoured in his home interiors. The 50th anniversary edition Parentesi is delivered in a special package, made of recycled plastic, that is inspired by the original 1970s packaging.
