The Misabel mug from Arabia’s Moomin collection features a less-known character, Misabel, who signs on as a maid for the Moomin family. Based on Tove and Lars Jansson’s comic strip Moominmamma’s Maid, the mug’s illustrations portray Misabel washing the Moomin family’s dishes, accompanied by her dog Sorry-oo, and cleaning the rugs in a lake as instructed by Moominmamma. The timid and somewhat neurotic Misabel is not entirely convinced on Moominmamma’s habits of always washing dishes with rainwater and swimming with rugs to rinse them after cleaning.
The mugs, bowls and plates of Arabia’s Moomin Classics tableware collection illustrate the characters of Moominvalley. First pieces of Arabia’s Moomin tableware came out already in the 1950s, and the large-scale production began in 1990. All the illustrations are done by Tove Slotte who draws inspiration from the original drawings by Tove Jansson. The form of the collection comes from Arabia’s timeless ceramic Teema tableware designed by Kaj Franck.
