Ninny bowl from Arabia’s Moomin collection portrays Ninny, a shy and mistreated child who has turned invisible. The Moomin family takes Ninny into their home, and their kindness and caring make her slowly turn back visible. The illustration is based on Tove Jansson’s short story The Invisible Child from 1962, and it reminds us of the importance of caring and seeing each other.
In 2019, the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child will turn 30. To support children’s rights and equality, Arabia donates one euro from each Ninny or Moomintroll mug sold during 2019 to local activities of Save the Children in all countries where the mugs are sold.
The mugs, bowls and plates of Arabia’s Moomin Classics tableware collection illustrate the characters of the Moominvalley from the front and behind. First pieces of Arabia’s Moomin tableware came out already in the 1950s, and the large-scale production began in 1990. All the illustrations are done by Tove Slotte who draws inspiration from the original drawings by Tove Jansson. The form of the collection comes from Arabia’s timeless, ceramic Teema tableware designed by Kaj Franck.
