Designed by Vico Magistretti for the Italian lighting company Artemide in 1967, the Eclisse lamp is a delightful combination of round shapes, simple surfaces and 1960s spirit. The soul of the lamp is its mechanical dimmer: a curved, rotating shutter makes it possible to control the direction and intensity of the light. By closing the shutter completely, the lamp creates a beautiful corona – the name Eclisse is an Italian word for eclipse.
Eclisse was awarded in 1967 a Compasso d'Oro design award and it influenced the futuristic design of the 1970s. Made of lacquered steel, Eclisse makes a characteristic table lamp for example in the bedroom or the office, and it can also be mounted on the wall.
