Description

GUBI’s C-Chair, designed by Marcel Gascoin in 1947, was born out of sheer necessity in post-war France when new, smaller homes were built to replace those damaged in the war, and new furniture was needed to fit into those homes. Marcel Gascoin answered this need by designing functional yet elegant furniture like the C-Chair, a classic dining chair characterised by a robust construction and a simple yet strong expression. Due to its clean-lined design language, the C-Chair fits into a variety of interiors from private homes to public spaces.

Marcel Gascoin

Marcel Gascoin (1907–1986) is known as one of the leading designers of post-war France. Driven by his social conscience and aptitude for combining clean-lined aesthetics with rational manufacturing processes, Gascoin played an important role in the reconstruction of the country. During the post-war housing crisis, Gascoin was employed by the French Ministry of Reconstruction and Urbanism to design homes and elegant yet functional furniture, many of which have since become sought-after design classics.
