Description

Balloon lounge chair, designed by Hans Olsen in 1955, is a joyful piece of Danish design characterized by a round silhouette and exquisite materials. Re-released by Warm Nordic as part of the collection of Danish design classics, Balloon captures the spirit of the 1950s by combining a playful, experimental attitude with skilled craftsmanship and sophisticated appearance. Handcrafted in Denmark, the round steel frame of Balloon has an inviting suede seat. The armrests are solid teak, and the leather has been fastened with laces that make a decorative detail to the back of the chair. Thanks to its lightweight structure and fascinating appearance from front to the back, Balloon will settle both by the wall or to the centre of the room.

Hans Olsen

Hans Olsen (1919-1992) was a Danish furniture designer who is famous for his experiments with bent, laminated wood. Olsen was a student of the noted designer Kaare Klint at the Royal Danish Academy, and he developed a distinctive style by combining classic references and organic lines with a touch of humour. The Balloon lounge chair, released in 1955, is a fine example of his work.
