Artek's Siena tray features a beautiful graphic pattern, designed by Alvar Aalto in 1954. Nicknamed ”Shadow Siena”, this version of the pattern consists of two overlapping colours, which create an impression of a shadow cast by the other. The rectangular tray is made of laminated plywood and paper.
The name Siena refers to the Italian city Alvar Aalto adored. Aalto is said to have found inspiration for the pattern from the marble tile walls of the medieval cathedral of Piazza del Duomo. The colours of the Siena collection have been picked from Aalto’s colour and material world, which ranges from black and white to natural hues of brick, marble and wood.
