Romb Mini table lamp

Description

The Romb Mini table lamp by Pholc is dominated by a striking design language that is sure to catch the eye wherever the lamp is placed. However, the luminaire is actually much more detailed than it might look at first glance: its surface is adorned with a delicate, undulating texture that creates an interesting contrast to the preciseness of the lamp’s shape. Designers Mats Broberg and Johan Ridderstråle say they got the idea from corrugated cardboard, which they often use when making architectural models.

The lamp emits an indirect glow both from its open-top as well as under its shade, the latter emphasizing the luminaire’s fascinating geometry. In geometry, Romb’s quadrilateral shape is called a rhombus, with all four sides measuring the same. The unusual shape gives Romb a striking presence but is, at the same time, a practical solution: the shape makes the luminaire slimmer, so it can fit on even a narrower shelf or windowsill. The portable table lamp is easy to move, and it can be placed anywhere: it finds its spot both indoors and outdoors and is an eye-catcher in both homes as well as in public spaces.

The strong shape and delicate texture also create a contrast that makes the Romb Mini table lamp almost sculptural – Romb is guaranteed to add a captivating touch to the décor even when the light is turned off.

Broberg & Ridderstråle

Broberg & Ridderstråle is a design and architecture studio founded by Mats Broberg and Johan Ridderstråle. Both of them are interior architects and designers and both of them graduated from the Konstfack University College of Arts, Crafts and Design, Sweden, in 2006. Mats Broberg and Johan Ridderstråle are creative collaborators based in Stockholm, Sweden, working in a mixed architecture and design practice.

They strive to add an emotional value to their design which communicates with the user through recognition of symbols and meanings. They often draw inspiration from the everyday life and try to combine a rational approach with a dash of humour and wit. One of the most famous products they designed is Plugged pendant lamp for Muuto. The Plugged pendant lamp plays with the elements most lighting armatures try to hide. It emphasizes how the lamp is “brought to life” thereby giving it character and difference. The space between the shade and the ceiling is highlighted by the pattern of the textile cord - and the placing of the plug on the side gives the lamp a dynamic appearance and brings life to an otherwise static typology. The concave diffuser adds to the freshness with the infinite sensation you get, when looking into the lamp. Broberg & Ridderstråle have received several awards for their designs, including the Elle Interior Design Prize and the Design Plus Award.
