Normann Copenhagen’s Jam bookcase is composed of just three elements: shelves, poles and – perhaps a bit surprisingly – wedges. It was these rather unremarkable objects that were the starting point for the design of the Jam bookcase. The German design trio behind the bookcase, Rudolph Schelling Webermann, was fascinated by a wedge’s ability to hold even a heavy door solely due to its inclined shape and friction. This is why the Jam bookcase is held together only with wedges and can be assembled without any screws or tools.
