Description

The Metsälampi towel by Lapuan Kankurit is decorated with a delicate Metsälampi pattern, designed by Akira Minagawa. The charming pattern takes you back to nature and the disappearing shapes in the water of the pond – the name "Metsälampi" means forest pond in English.

The Metsälampi hand towel is made of washed European linen, a carefree material with a naturally laid-back appearance. It is, therefore, not necessary to iron the towel – small wrinkles and creases give it a relaxed, natural look. The towel can be used as a tea towel, dish towel or hand towel as preferred.

Akira Minagawa

Akira Minagawa (b. 1967) is a Japanese textile designer and illustrator, best known as the founder of the minä perhonen design company. In addition to his own brand, Minagawa has also designed textiles for Kvadrat of Denmark and Klippan of Sweden, among others.

Founded in 1995, minä perhonen manufactures clothing and upholstery fabrics with naive and imaginative prints as well as various design items. The brand name, minä perhonen, is Finnish for “I butterfly”. According to Minagawa, who has named Finland as one of his favourite countries, the name was chosen simply by flicking through a dictionary: “minä” stands for the designer himself, and the word “perhonen”, added later to the name, is a reference to the myriad of patterns adorning a butterfly’s wings – Minagawa’s idea has always been to create fabrics as beautiful and diverse as the wings of a butterfly.
