Kartell

Kartell is an Italian design company founded by Giulio Castelli in 1949 and based in Milan. Since its foundation Kartell has designed and manufactured products made of plastic. At the beginning the company manufactured automobile accessories and during the ’60 the production of lamps, furniture and interior decoration items started. Kartell has cooperated with famous designers such as Philippe Starck, Ron Arad, Ferruccio Laviani, Patricia Urquiola and Antonio Citterio.

The company’s focus has always been on innovation, new production methods and materials’ testing. In 1999 Kartell introduced the polycarbonate as a material for its furniture. The first product was La Marie by Philippe Starck, the first transparent chair in the world made with a single polycarbonate mould. During the years Kartell has received many prestigious awards and in 1999 the Kartell Museum was founded in Milan.
