Description

Chris Martin designed the Crown armchair for Massproductions in 2012. The stylish yet playful Crown armchair unites a durable steel frame with a padded seat upholstered with grey fabric. The airy backrest of the armchair is firmly attached to the armrests with a concealed steel joint. The Crown armchair is an eye-catching armchair that completes the style of any space with its beautiful design. Crown makes a great addition either around the dining table or in the home office.

Coming up with a product name is often a process in and of its own. This time, it came naturally according to the designer Christ Martin:

“We didn’t have a name for the product, and at one point the factory owner picked up the backrest for assembly. I said 'It's time to put the hat on', to which he replied 'No, this is a crown'. He placed the crown on the shoulders of the chair. It was like a coronation; we knew instantly that we found the right name for it.”

Chris Martin

The British designer Chris Martin moved to Stockholm to do freelance work for IKEA. However, Martin wanted to change his work to a more sustainable and quality-driven direction, so that there would be fewer filters between him and the final product. He met the Swedish designer Magnus Elebäck and together they founded the furniture company Massproductions in 2009.

For Massproductions, Martin designs products in a traditional Nordic way, without forgetting to add in elements from other cultures, as well. His design work is characterised by his ability to unite functionality with an innovative, even artistic appearance. In 2020, Martin was awarded with the prestigious Bruno Mathsson Prize.
