Cutting boards by valerie objects blur the boundary between practical and decorative objects. Originally, the design studio Muller Van Severin planned to make a single sculptural ornament out of polyethylene. Along the way, the plan became more and more functional, until four cutting boards of different shapes were created.
The different coloured cutting boards are designed not only to be used but also to be kept on display when not cutting anything on them. The beautiful set would make you want to hang them up almost anywhere between uses. “Nonetheless we do propose to hang it in the kitchen and not, say, the bedroom,” Hannes from Muller Van Severin says. “That would just be weird”, – but aren’t all rules actually made to be broken?
