The inspiration for Dopper came in 2009 when Everaarts saw a documentary about a giant plastic patch floating in the ocean and was shocked by the number of plastic bottles among the garbage. Everaarts decided to organize a design competition to find a perfect reusable bottle for drinking water. Out of nearly 100 entries, Rinke van Remortel’s design was chosen – it combined a sleek appearance with durability, practicality and innovative design. The first bottles were produced by crowdfunding, and soon Dopper bottles became a part of everyday life in the Netherlands, and also gained wide international success. Dopper bottles are produced in the Netherlands with the Cradle to Cradle concept, and their carbon footprint is zero. The Dopper Foundation, founded in 2013, increases awareness about the impacts of single-use plastic waste and supports drinking water projects in Baglung, Nepal.
