Description

HAY's Pyramid Café 21 is a lighter, round version of the Pyramid table designed by Wim Rietveld in the 1950s. A simplistic combination of a triangular steel frame and a sturdy oak top, Pyramid was regarded in the 50s as a masterpiece in the innovative use of sheet steel, and it has maintained its fresh appearance until today. During the past decades, Pyramid has been widely used in both public and private contexts. Pyramid table pairs beautifully together with HAY’s Result chair.

Wim Rietveld

Wim Rietveld (1924–1985) was a Dutch designer and son of the notable architect and designer Gerrit Rietveld. Like his father, Wim Rietveld carried on the tradition of groundbreaking furniture design. In the 1950s, Rietveld studied industrial design at the Hague Academy, and like many designers of the post-war era, he focused on functional minimalism with easily accessible materials.

Rietveld became famous for his stackable furniture and creating functional solutions for mass production. He also worked as the Head of Industrial Design at the University of Delft. Rietveld’s 1407 armchair won the gold medal at the 10th Milan Trienalle, and several of his designs, such as the Result chair and the Pyramid collection, have won the Signe d’Or award.
