Description

100 Hectares of Understanding is a photo book depicting Finnish forests from the personal perspective of photographer Jaakko Kahilaniemi. Finland is one of the most forested countries in the world – almost 75% of the land is covered by forests – but forestry is a relatively unknown topic for modern city residents. After having inherited 100 hectares of forest, Kahilaniemi decided to delve into the unfamiliar world. 100 Hectares of Understanding has also been on display at the Finnish Museum of Photography.

Jaakko Kahilaniemi (b. 1989) has studied photography at the Turku Academy of Arts and Aalto University. In 2018, he won the prestigious ING Unseen Talent Award Jury Prize, and his work has been displayed in several international photo festivals.
