Description

GUBI's Bohemian ottoman is a perfect example of designer Gabriella Crespi’s desire to create furniture that seamlessly moves from indoor to outdoor spaces. Made of rattan, the ottoman is suitable for the living room as well as for the balcony or covered terrace or patio – although it is not advisable to leave rattan furniture in the rain or scorching sun. The ottoman is upholstered in Dedar's top-quality outdoor fabric with diagonal bouclé-style stripes.

Gabriella Crespi originally designed the Bohemian collection in 1972, but it did not reach wider production until 2022, exactly 50 years after its original introduction. Natural rattan was chosen as a material not only because of its versatility and durability but also because it was considered the most elegant, most sophisticated material in the social circles of Crespi's time. The forms of the furniture, however, were considered quite unusual, but they have since proved to be timeless and suitable for all kinds of environments; just as Crespi wanted, Bohemian is just as easy to envision being used in the city as it is in the countryside or by the sea.

Gabriella Crespi

Gabriella Crespi (1922–2017) was a Milanese artist and designer whose bohemian, elegant style can be admired in jewellery, furniture and sculpture. Crespi's educational background is in architecture, which she studied at the prestigious Politecnico di Milan. She began her career in the 1950s and continued to create designs that blur the line between product and art until her death in 2017.

Crespi was known not only as an artist and designer but a veritable cosmopolitan who moved smoothly in the social circles of her time with European royalty and Hollywood icons like Audrey Hepburn. Travelling was always close to Crespi’s heart, and many of her works show influences from other cultures – Crespi was particularly interested in Asian philosophies. In her career, Crespi also collaborated with Dior and Stella McCartney, among others, and was considered a muse of Valentino Garavani, the founder of the Italian fashion house Valentino.
