Description

GUBI's Timberline floor lamp was originally created by designer Mads Caprani in the 1970s and is now reissued, to the delight of all design lovers. The story says that the luminaire's distinctive shape was born when Caprani sat at his desk drawing question marks while designing a new luminaire – and suddenly realised that the question mark might just be the shape he was looking for. And one has to admit: the floor lamp's slightly arching leg really does resemble the soft curve of the question mark!

Mads Caprani's luminaires are well-known for their detailed shades, and the Timberline is no exception. The attractive floor lamp is completed by an extremely beautiful pleated canvas shade that softens the light from the lamp inside. The delicate luminaire is ideal to create a gentle atmosphere in the living room and the bedroom but also finds a place in the home office as a work lamp or reading light.

Mads Caprani

Micheli Alessio "Mads" Caprani (1942 - 2014) was a Danish designer, particularly known for his charming and distinctive luminaires. But Caprani was not originally meant to be a lighting designer: as a child, little Mads was passionate about music. His path to the world of design started at the Technical College of Copenhagen, where he trained as an electrician and then as an electrical engineer. The famous Danish lighting manufacturer Louis Poulsen was impressed by Caprani's technical skills and hired him. At Louis Poulsen, Caprani had the opportunity to work with some of the top names in Scandinavian design: Arne Jacobsen, Verner Panton, and Poul Henningsen. These innovators sparked his interest in design.

Alessio Micheli Caprani, Mads Caprani's father, had bought the Rotaflex lighting factory in 1967. Ten years later, Mads Caprani joined the company and began producing the beautifully pleated lampshades for which he is still best known. In the late 1970s, Caprani took over his father's company and changed its name to Caprani Light, focusing entirely on lighting design. Although Caprani Light is no longer in business, Caprani lamps are more popular than ever. Mads Campari has left an unforgettable mark on the history of design.

The preferring process through Finnish Design for my GUBI Timberline floor lamp was seamless. The lamp arrived well packaged and intact. The lamp is elegant, sitting lightly on the floor and flowing up to a delicate, pleated shade. Love it!!
