The Arabia 24h Piennar plate is decorated with a blue-toned pattern created by Heikki Orvola in celebration of the 25th anniversary of his 24h tableware series. Achieved with the collage technique, the pattern is a mix of modern and a more traditional style; in addition to delicate flowers, it features various abstract elements.
Originally launched in 1996, the 24h series was named after how it was intended to be used: 24h – tableware for every hour of every day. In turn, the word Piennar, Finnish for “roadside”, refers to the inspiration behind the pattern. “On the side of the road, you can often see both beauty and ruggedness – flowers and rubbish side by side. That contradiction, along with the world around us, got me thinking, and I wanted the pattern to reflect the interest aroused in me,” Orvola has said.
