Catellani & Smith
Catellani & Smith is an Italian lighting manufacturer specialising in handcrafted designer lamps and light installations. Founded in 1989 by Enzo Catellani, the company quickly grew from a one-man business into an internationally renowned design brand. Despite its two-part name, there was only one founder – Smith was a playful reference to Logan Smith, originally introduced as a "London architect", who, in fact, was neither an architect, nor from London, nor even a person, but rather Catellani's own horse. This humorous twist was the designer's way of shifting attention from himself while adding a whimsical touch to the brand.
Now a second-generation family business, Catellani & Smith takes the art of lighting very seriously: each fixture is crafted by hand along the Serio River in Lombardy, Italy, with every piece given exactly as much time as needed to achieve a flawless result.
