Iittala's Ultima Thule pitcher is part of Iittala’s iconic glassware range, which was created in 1968 by Tapio Wirkkala. The inspiration for the collection was found in the melting spring ice of Northern Finland. Ultima Thule glasses are mouth-blown at the Iittala glass factory in Finland.
In 1969, the Finnish airline Finnair chose Ultima Thule for its new route from Helsinki to New York, and the glassware is still used in Finnair’s Business Class. Ultima Thule crystallises the expressive power of Finnish glass design, and this distinctive classic played a key role in Iittala’s international breakthrough. Over time, Ultima Thule has become one of Iittala’s most popular glassware ranges, exemplifying Wirkkala’s belief that the simplest objects often require the most work.
This special shade of the Ultima Thule pitcher is copper. It complements the cool atmosphere of the Ultima Thule collection with a warm glow reminiscent of northern lights and sunsets. The limited edition colour is only available for 2024 and 2025.
