Iittala's Ultima Thule pitcher is part of the iconic glassware series created in 1968 by Tapio Wirkkala. The collection also gained international fame next year when the Finnish airline Finnair chose Ultima Thule for its new route from Helsinki to New York. The inspiration for the collection came from the melting spring ice of Northern Finland. Ultima Thule is based on a so-called ice glass technique developed together by Iittala and Tapio Wirkkala – the forms imitate nature and gradually change as the molten glass burns the surface of the wooden moulds. Ultima Thule shows very well Wirkkala’s view according to which simple objects require most work.
This special shade of Ultima Thule pitcher is copper. It complements the cool atmosphere of the Ultima Thule collection with a warm glow reminiscent of northern lights and sunsets. The limited edition colour is only available for 2024 and 2025.
