Description

The Lightweight stool by Form & Refine is a multifunctional piece of furniture designed by Herman Studio that functions both as an additional seat and a side or coffee table. As the name implies, the stool is extremely light and therefore easy to move around as needed. Skillfully made oak, the stool comprises a sturdy frame and a seat made up of wood slats which add an elegant detail to the stool's otherwise very minimalist look.

“With Lightweight, we wanted to pay tribute to classic carpentry traditions by constructing the furniture with beautiful and old-style wooden joints. We wanted to make a light impact furniture in both a visual and physical sense which reflects the quality grounded in our contemporary design language. The design is graphically tight but at the same time soft and tactile when used,” Herman Studio’s Helle Herman Mortensen and Jonas Herman Pedersen have said.

Herman Studio

Herman Studio is a Danish design office specializing in furniture and interior design. It was founded in 2011 by Helle Herman Mortensen, who has studied Industrial Design at Aalborg University, and Jonas Herman Pedersen, who specialized in furniture and space design at Aarhus School of Architecture. In their designs, Mortensen emphasizes storytelling and multitude of perspectives, and Pedersen is fascinated by production methods and the holistic manufacturing process from raw material to the final product. The duo’s design are often finely balanced combinations of elegant and powerful elements with room for quirky details and surprises, too.
