Carl Hansen & Søn’s CH25 lounge chair, designed by Hans J. Wegner, was first introduced in 1950. At the time, it was considered revolutionary because of its paper cord seat: paper yarn was developed during World War II and had not been used in the furniture industry before. However, Wegner was inspired by the appearance and durability of the material, and so were generations after him.
Featuring a graceful solid wood frame that is easy to place even in small spaces, the CH25 lounge chair has remained popular since its launch and is a testimony to Wegner’s visionary approach to design. The hand-woven seat and backrest alone take a skilled craftsman about 10 hours to create, using 400 meters of paper cord. Made by hand in Denmark, the carefully finished CH25 chair is a masterpiece of traditional craftsmanship and Danish design.
