The Flycatcher glass bird from Iittala’s Birds by Toikka collection is an homage to Iittala’s long traditions in glassblowing. The small bird also celebrates the legacy of glass artist Oiva Toikka, who is regarded as one of the most influential figures of Finnish design, renowned for his unique contribution to Finnish art glass over the past half-century.
Originally designed in 1972 and relaunched in 2021, Flycatcher was the first bird of the beloved Birds by Toikka collection. So far hundreds of species have been created, some of them more enduring in production than others. Each bird is a mouth-blown, unique individual, signed with the artist’s name. The passing of time enhances the value of these art objects – that is why Birds by Toikka are cherished and valued gifts and irresistible to collectors around the world.
