Iittala's Aalto vase was introduced in a delicate salmon pink colour first time in the spring of 2013. The original vase was born in 1936 when Alvar Aalto won a design competition for the Karhula-Iittala glassworks factory. Next year, the Aalto vase was displayed in different sizes and colours for the World Fair in Paris. The legendary shape of the Aalto vase is derived from the lakes and landscapes, and it was originally shaped by Finnish design icons and glasswork. Nowadays, there is a variety of different interesting objects in the world-famous Aalto shape.
Alvar Aalto wanted the users themselves to decide how his glass objects should be used. The Aalto collection is still contemporary and fresh, and this freedom to interpret the origins and function may be the reason. Every vase is mouth-blown at Iittala's glass factory in Finland. Pieces can be displayed as a single or as a group, an exclusive work of art, a pleasure as a gift or to own.
