The Aalto vase, designed by Alvar Aalto in 1936, won the first prize in a glass design competition organized by the Karhula-Iittala glass factory. Next year Alvar Aalto created the Aalto vase in different sizes and colours for the World Fair in Paris. The vase was also chosen to be a part of the interiors in the Savoy restaurant in Helsinki.
The Aalto vase is an organically shaped icon of Finnish design and glassworks. Each and every Aalto vase is mouth-blown at the Iittala glass factory in Finland. Alvar Aalto wanted the user to decide how his glass objects should be used. The vase can be used to display flower arrangements or it can be a beautiful decorative item on its own - the choice is yours!
