Description

Published by Taschen, Breuer provides a compact insight into the career of the Hungarian-born architect Marcel Breuer (1902–1981). A pioneer of the Bauhaus movement, Breuer was characterised by Time magazine as one of the ”form-givers of the 20th century”. Written by Arnt Cobbers, a freelance author specialising in architecture, the book is part of Taschen's Basic Architecture series that presents life and work of internationally renowned architects with approximately 120 photographs, sketches and drafts. The series has been edited by German art historian Peter Gössel.

A defining form-giver of the 20th century, Marcel Breuer is a modernist locus classicus. From his landmark tubular furniture to “binuclear” housing, his projects across Europe and the United States are case studies in the balance of texture, color, and form, and the elegant symbiosis of local and global, big and small, rough and smooth.
