Description

Moooi’s Raimond II Dome 79 pendant brings the unique beauty of a starry night into your home. Designed by mathematician Raimond Puts, the suspension light consists of a dome-shaped steel net lit with a multitude of tiny LED bulbs that resemble stars twinkling in a night sky. The dimmable fixture also features a downward spotlight that amplifies the light and makes Raimond Dome ideal for hanging above a dining table.

Raimond Puts's inspiration for the Raimond lighting collection was the geodesic dome, a hemispherical construction consisting of triangular elements. Developed by American architect Buckminster Fuller in the 1940s, the geodome has been applied to buildings like greenhouses and glass igloos, for example – but Puts envisioned it as a luminaire. It took Puts almost 40 years to develop the lamp design, conducting endless research and building numerous prototypes until, in 2009, the collection's first luminaires were ready to be introduced to the world. The hemisphere-shaped Raimond Dome was partly developed in collaboration with Puts' spouse, Tis Ernst, as Raimond sadly passed away before completing the final design.

In 2021, Raimond Dome was updated with new dimming possibilities and more efficient LED lights, allowing the luminaire to shine even brighter. The modernised version was given the rather regal name, Raimond II Dome.

Raimond Puts

Raimond Puts (1937–2012) was a Dutch self-taught designer who is best known for the Raimond lighting collection named after him. Building a career as a mathematician and technical engineer, Puts was always fascinated about machinery and problem-solving. Getting to know metal as a material during his studies opened up a whole new world for him in design. By experimenting with models based on different materials and geometric shapes, Puts ended up creating innovative products both in terms of appearance and functionality.
