The shaft is made of light but durable aluminium, and its bladed end is equipped with a stepping pedal whose the locking mechanism keeps the blade open so that you can drop the bulb conveniently through the top of the planter. This tool might work for planting bulbs, but was completely unsuited for planting lavender plugs (4” baby lavenders, with root clumps).
