Designer
Ernesto Gismondi (b. 1931) is an Italian designer and the founder of the lighting company Artemide. With a background in aeronautical and missile engineering, Gismondi founded Studio Artemide in the early 1960s together with Sergio Mazza. During his career Gismondi has operated in various fields of design: he has participated in the avant-garde movement Memphis, been the vice president of ADI (Association of Industrial Design) and an associate professor of Rocket Engines for Missiles at the Milan Polytechnic. He has received the prestigious Compasso D'Oro award twice.
