Robin Day

Robin Day (1915–2010) was one of Britain's most renowned designers of the 20th century. Educated at the Royal College of Art, Day emerged in the design world after World War II and is particularly remembered for his pioneering use of plywood and polypropylene. One of his most significant works was designing the seating for the Royal Festival Hall in 1951. His extensive portfolio includes everything from televisions to carpets, and posters to complete interiors. His most iconic creation, the Polypropylene Chair, released in 1963, revolutionised the affordable seating market and remains a design classic to this day.

Throughout a career spanning seven decades, Day was honoured with the title of Royal Designer for Industry and was awarded the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 1983.
