Normann Copenhagen's Stretch stool, designed by Simon Legald, is a multifunctional piece of furniture whose simple, solid shape is inspired by the material: the stool is made of thick pine planks. Typically for Legald, the characteristics of the material are celebrated instead of hidden, and the surface of the stool is dotted with knots typical of pine wood. Instead of a thick layer of paint, the stool is finished with a UV matt varnish, which allows the natural beauty of the material to shine. In addition to the surface patterns, it is typical for pine wood to patina over time and change colour into a beautiful honey-like tone.
The design of the Stretch stool is sturdy, durable and practical – you could also say uncomplicated and welcoming. It combines the best aspects of modern minimalism and more traditional rustic aesthetics, and is therefore easy to imagine in any kind of space. The stool can be used as an additional seat, as a bedside table, or even as a small side shelf for flower pots and decorative items.
